The Modern Tuxedo with Timeless Style
A wedding or any other black tie event that requires formal menswear will probably have you buying what you want to be a super nice tuxedo. These occasions usually bring large groups together so you want to look your best. If you look good, you feel good. There are so many different options when piecing together a tuxedo and the price can get rather hefty. If you don’t know where to start just follow these basic tuxedo tips and you will be the life of the party in no time.
The Suit. The jacket and pants are the main components when it comes to piecing together an affordable and great looking tuxedo. Stay with a classic but fitted jacket with pointed lapels, which will give you a special formal look as well as give you a more athletic looking fit. Sleeves that show off the cuff of your shirt sleeves and cufflinks, which should be either silver, white or black, is an essential style detail.
The Vest. This is an optional component but it can provide a nice touch to your tuxedo and can be a great alternative to the cummerbund which is fairly outdated. Again, keep it clean and simple and only go with the vest if there is one that comes with your suit. Do not try to buy one separately because it will not match.
The Shirt. There are two collar options when it comes to the shirt. You can go with a turn down collar or you can go with a wing tip collar. Keep the look clean by going with a shirt that has a turn down collar and a pleated front. You can never go wrong with this. When I say pleats, I don’t mean the large ruffled look like Austin Powers but find a shirt with nice tight and clean pleats.
The Tie. If you are going with the traditional tie, stick to a black narrow tie that is no more than 2-3″ wide. If you are going the route of the classic bow tie, which creates the traditional and more formal tuxedo look, then go with a black narrow hand tied bow tie.
The Shoes. No square toed shoes please. Stick with a rounded and slightly pointed polished black shoe. Probably the most common mistake is wearing a brand new pair of shoes. Most of these events will cause you to be standing for most of the time so do yourself a favor and break them in much in advance.
The Accessories. You have just completely pieced together a killer modern looking tuxedo but we must not forget about some of the accessories that enhance your style. A formal watch with a neutral band and a new pair of black dress socks completes your clean looking modern tuxedo that will never go out of style and last you for years to come.
Don’t want to look exactly the same at all the events with the same tux? No problem. You can switch up the style or color of the tie, depending on the event, you can go with or without a vest, you can switch up the cufflinks and buttons if want as well. All of these options are fairly affordable to help switch up your look so within a small budget you can have multiple looks with the same suit and shoes which is normally the bulk of the cost.
